This Mexican restaurant is by far the best if you love true Tex-Mex (as in Lower Rio Grande Valley, TX. Tex-Mex). I ordered a margarita (very yummy!) and had to go an order of pork tacos and beef tacos. They were better than DC Taco or any Mexican restaurant I've tried here and in the DC area. Coming from authentic RGV Mex food, I've been looking for a home. Suggestion: They should look into breakfast tacos, - particularly chorizo and egg, like Taco Palenque and pork tamales like Delia's - both my former South TX restaurant favorite Mexican foods! Nonetheless, El Gran Palenque is the best. They even offer BOTANA PLATTERS (for those of us who know....)

I love this place. I went to this place a couple times a few years ago. Then I went to this place a couple weeks ago and it was still great food. Prepare to speak some spanish or look and point really well. Margaritas are VERY good. Fajitas are amazing!! It's a little salty, but it's flavorful salty. If the mariachi band is there, I'd slip them a $5 or $10 and enjoy the evening listening to good music.
